Applied Arts Scotland presents a free online festival exploring identity, collaboration, and sustainability.

The international craft festival will include collaborating makers' residencies and practice, an exhibition of new individual and collaborative works, and an 'Old Stories, New Narratives' symposium.

This year's themes are informed by the international craft exchange - a project that brought together makers from Mexico, Canada, Thailand and Scotland to experiment and create new work, culminating in the Meet Make Collaborate touring exhibition.

The practice of the international collaborating makers during and since their residencies, and the individual and collaborative works created and exhibited, form the basis of the festival programme, along with symposium papers which will provoke and stimulate further discussion around the themes by asking an array of critical questions at convened panels.

The festival programme is a mix of live activities hosted on Zoom (register in advance) and recorded for same-day publication on the festival webpages.

All activity is free.

Programme

Over the four-day festival programme, the three themes will be considered across three strands:

International collaborating maker's residencies and practice

Makers participating in the international residencies will discuss their experiences during and since at makers' studio visits/demonstrations and in informal discussions.

'Meet Make Collaborate' touring exhibition

An online tour of the exhibition, at the Barn, Banchory, Aberdeenshire until 6 November 2021, alongside details of the exhibits online.

'Old Stories, New Narratives' symposium

Three convened panels, each addressing a festival theme, including speakers from Canada, Australia, Chile, New Zealand and the UK. The symposium concludes with the Dr Sandra Alfoldy Craft Institute Talk by Professor Erin Morton, University of New Brunswick.

About Applied Arts Scotland

The festival is presented and funded by Applied Arts Scotland SCIO, Edinburgh College of Art, MSVU Art Gallery and The Dr Sandra Alfoldy Craft Institute at NSCAD University.

Funded by Creative Scotland and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
