  • Jo Fairfax - Play. 25 years of public and private art, craft and design.

This specially commissioned exhibition will present past and new works by interdisciplinary artist Jo Fairfax.

This specially commissioned exhibition will present past and new works by interdisciplinary artist Jo Fairfax. Jo extracts current technological principles and weaves them into his projects, bringing a sense of the human touch to wonderful technology. Working as a public artist since 1995, his practice includes mechanical works, light, poetry machines, interactive film projections and interactive walls of tiles.

Play will include a new kinetic sculpture ‘Pea Run’ created specifically for the Hub. The work draws on the history of the Sleaford area and the buildings that have housed the Hub, both our current home which was once a seed warehouse, and our first home at The Pearoom in Heckington.

Jo has taken inspiration from a photograph that he found in the Lincolnshire Archives, which shows women workers at the ‘moving’ work table in the pea sorting warehouse at the Pearooms in 1950’s. The work promises to be a mesmerising experience allowing visitors to rediscover the history of our local industry and architecture, as our building undergoes its latest transformation.

Free artist tour - Friday 27 August

To hear from the artist himself and ask questions about the creative processes and inspirations behind his work, book a place on a dedicated tour. Due to social distancing, places for this tour are limited and booking is essential.
