Sarah van Gameren (Glithero) and Peter Marigold will discuss how projects evolve from the brief through to the installation of the final work, looking at the many nuanced details, preparatory work and events that shaped the journey.
Sarah van Gameren from Glithero and Peter Marigold are designer-makers based in London. Between them, their work covers large ground, from products, to public art, from the hand made to the machine made. Their work is collected and exhibited globally and they have shared many similiar creative experiences yet adopt very different ways of working, and approaching projects.
At this online event, Sarah and Peter will discuss recent projects and explore how each has evolved from the brief through to the installation of the final work, looking at the many nuanced details, preparatory work and events that shaped the journey of the creative kernel through to its manifestation. This will be a useful practical discussion taking the audience through the sketches, models, rejected proposals, client tantrums and fabrication nightmares that led to the final installation of the work. At the core of the discussion will be how to begin such undertakings, both practically and mentally, where do you find inspiration in the brief, what do you want to get out of the project, how do you help your ideas navigate and survive the choppy waters of the client interaction and the practicalities of the physical world.
Using examples of some of their most recent projects, the talk will in part be an in depth exploration of each designer's ways of working but also a conversation between the two about shared experiences during their careers and their very different approaches and objectives when faced with a new brief. The discussion will also be open for questions and answers from the audience.
