Fifty Bees Five Bee 217 Bombus Cullumanus
The fragile network of eroded circular lines echoes the form of the nests that Bombus cullumanus build underground, in abandoned mice burrows. At the base of these linear forms are the suggestion of shadows, with etched and pierced details about the bee, its habitat, history and appearance. These elements in turn cast shadows to reference the temporary nature of the Bombus Cullumanus, now extinct in the UK.
The colouring of the piece is inspired by the bees' red tails and yellow collars.
