Safe Passage
Safe Passage is made of an aluminium survival blanket of the sort that is given to rescued refugees whose boats have capsized. In this piece, the blanket becomes the rough seas they tried to traverse. The red of the boats reflects onto the surface, giving the impression of blood in the water. The boats are made of paper to suggest fragility, and they also appear tiny amidst the huge waves. The eleven boats could be those carrying the refugees, rescue boats or border patrol boats.
