Degree Show (The Glasgow School of Art)
A selection of work created as for my BA(hons) in Silversmithing & Jewellery at GSA, inspired by my abstract drawings of the Scottish Coast. Enamelled elements build contrasting textures against silver in muted tones of grey, blue and black, and are fastened with laser welded steel, creating sculptural drawings to wear. Enamel is underfired onto copper mesh to create tactile forms, or fully fired to contrast subtly roll-printed metal. Mixed metals are also used to create the drawn-line in sheet.

Statement Oxidised Silver and Enamel necklace , Shannon ToftsNecklace created as part of my degree show collection. Based on drawings from the Scottish Coast, it is intended to appear as an abstract drawing worn on the body. The internal sides of the tubes are enamelled to create tactile difference in colour, linked together with laser welded steel wire.
Series of 3 ‘Abstract Sketch’ Enamelled Brooches, Shannon ToftsDifferent tones of grey tactile enamel forms are set onto a silver base, fastened with steel wire forms to create a drawn-like brooch.
Abstract Tube Brooch Inlaid with Gold Wire Pattern, Shannon ToftsSilver inlaid with 9ct gold to create unique pattern, the ends set with sapphire cabochons to create a hidden detail.
Dark Grey Abstract Sketch Enamelled Brooch, Shannon Tofts Dynamic brooch, experimenting with materials to create unique 3D forms that are tactile and refer to the drawn-line. I have used an enamelling technique to create a sandy finish by under-firing onto copper mesh, then laser-welded to a silver frame using steel wire.
