Presence Through Absence
This body of work explores capturing glimpses into people’s lives as seen through windows in the evening. Verity has used black clay to evoke the shadowy silhouettes of domestic buildings and the depth and volume of darkness at night. On the surface of the work Verity has used coloured slips and inlayed porcelain to portray glimmers of light and warmth. By monoprinting and drawing on clay Verity captures snapshots that convey a sense of stillness and absence of presence.
