Boats
Sculptures inspired by the boats that sit on the mud at low tide outside my studio. Handmade from a range of clays both local and coloured, these forms are intended to evoke the essence of boats rather than a factual representation. They reference vessels used historically by the china clay industry in Cornwall and traditional sailing boats sailing on the Carrick Roads. There is a boatyard right opposite my studio so I observe how the boats sit on the water and on the mud at low tide.
