The Olive Jar
My sculptures refer both to European porcelain compotiers
and tureens, to still lifes, and to the symbolic fruits and vegetables of vanitas paintings. The reference for this still life was Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin's Still Life with Olive Jar 1760

Coiled porcelain, coloured slips, glaze, ceramic transfers, gold leaf The early European porcelains of Meissen and Sèvres were my reference but these symbols of perfection eliminated the mark of the maker. Disrupting, simplifying, and transforming these forms with the imperfect touch and emphasis of material qualities creates a bare essential caricature.
